AUS vs SL: Top 5 performers T20I series

Sri Lanka held their nerves in the inconsequential fifth T20I at the MCG to register a five-wicket win in a last-over thriller. By the virtue of this win, the visitors managed to salvage pride by avoiding a whitewash as Australia won the series 4-1. While the five-match series was completely dominated by the reigning T20 world champions, there were some key performers who made their presence felt in this bilateral series.

Here are the top 5 performers from the Australia-Sri Lanka T20I series

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell was named the Player of the Series for scoring 138 runs from five matches. While he started poorly in the first two-game having scored 7 and 15 respectively, the power-hitter roared back to form in the next three games with scores of 39, 48* and 29 respectively.

Josh Hazlewood

It seems that Josh Hazlewood has succeeded in rediscovering his rhythm well ahead of the IPL 2022 where he would be representing the three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore.  The tall pacer was consistent with the ball as he registered eight wickets from three games including two three-wicket hauls.

Jhye Richardson

The pacer was one of the best performers with the ball in hand in the home T20I series. He made the most of his chances with eight wickets from five outings including a three-wicket haul.

Pathum Nissanka

Pathum Nissanka was Sri Lanka’s most consistent performer with the bat down under. The opener single-handedly ensured good starts for the visitors. He finished with 184 runs including a half-century with his highest score being 73.

Wanindu Hasaranga

One of RCB’s most expensive recruits Wanindu Hasaranga also succeeded in bamboozling the Australian batters in their own backyard in the five-match T20I series. The spin sensation finished the bilateral series with five wickets from two games including a three-wicket haul in the series opener at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week.
