AUS vs IND: Who is Cameron Green? Know about Australia’s new entrant
Australia have one of the richest legacies in cricket. They were the first team to play an official Test match way back in the 19th century and since then have only gone from strength to strength. This legacy, the domination has been possible only because of the super talented players that have regularly come up in the circuit who are then groomed to become world-beaters. Another such youngster, who is being touted as a future superstar, has arrived on the international scene. The player is Cameron Green. So who is this newbie?
– Green is a 21-year-old all-rounder from Western Australia. He has been the talk of the town in Australia ever since he made his first-class and List A debuts in 2017.
– While he hasn’t played much of List A cricket, in 19 first-class matches, he has scored 1196 runs at an average of 49.8 with 4 100s and 3 50s. He has also managed to pick up 30 wickets at an average of just 22.5.
– Apart from an overall fantastic record, Green has had a dream 2020 Sheffield Shield season as well. While he hasn’t been able to bowl much due to an injury, he has scored 363 runs in 4 matches at an average of 72.6 with 2 50s and a ton. Rightfully so, he has received a call up for the India series in all 3 formats.
– More than just the numbers and statistics, Green has shown unbelievable temperament under pressure. His recent 197 against New South Wales, one of the best teams in the competition, has been hailed as one of the best innings in the Shield in recent times.

– Greg Chappell described Green as the best young batsman he has seen since Ricky Ponting. Ashton Agar has hailed him as a ‘scary talent with a great cricketing brain’. Chris Rogers has lauded his ‘extraordinary talent’.
– Apart from his brilliant batting, it is believed he can touch the 140km/hr mark with the ball too.
– While he is most likely going to start in the middle order for Australia in Tests, he may not be selected in the limited-overs XI straight away but could come in for the latter games.
A fast-bowling all-rounder is the rarest of commodities in cricket. Such an exciting package could truly make a massive difference for Australia. It is important for the management to look after the youngster, and who knows, perhaps by the end of the India tour, the newbie Green would have become a household name.
