AUS vs IND: Mitchell Starc to miss remainder T20I series for personal reasons

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc has withdrawn from the rest of the T20 series against India. The pacer has been informed of an illness in the family, Cricket Australia confirmed ahead of the second T20I at Sydney.

The Australian T20I team arrived in Sydney from Canberra on Saturday, following which Starc left the team’s bio-bubble. There is no confirmation yet on when the Aussie speedster will rejoin the squad. Cricket Australia didn’t name a replacement either, with Daniel Sams and Andrew Tye already present in the side.

“There is nothing in the world more important than family and in this case, Mitch is no exception,” head coach Justin Langer said in a statement.

“We will give Mitch all the time he needs and welcome him back into the squad with open arms whenever he feels the time is right for him and his family.”

Both Sams and Tye eventually made it to the playing eleven, with the former marking his international debut. Tye, who hadn’t featured in a T20I game for Australia in two years, also made his return. Aussie skipper Aaron Finch was another notable absentee on Sunday along with Starc, after he picked up an injury in the first T20I.
