AUS vs IND: 3rd Test – Action-packed fourth day sets up a riveting final day

Australia further strengthened their position on the fourth day of the third Test in Sydney against India. They almost batted the visitors out of the game stretching the lead to 406 runs and declared the innings exactly at Tea. India then started well in the second innings with the openers adding 71 runs. But both of them got out as they ended the day at 98/2 after 34 overs. Here are the talking points.

3. Cameron Green shines

Cameron Green finally struck gold with the bat in the series. He looked calm and composed during his stay in the middle and helped Australia extend their lead. He was dropped a couple of times and made sure India paid for it. After getting to a hard-fought fifty, he shifted gears seamlessly smashing as many as four massive sixes. At one stage, it looked like he would get to his maiden ton. But Green played one too many shots to finally edge on to the keeper. Nevertheless, his 84 off 127 helped Australia churn out quick runs and declare early.

2. Luckless Bumrah

21-4-68-1 – These were the figures of Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings. Clearly, the numbers don’t reflect how well India’s pace spearhead bowled. Only if Indian fielders had held on to their catches, Bumrah might have even ended up with a five-wicket haul. Every time a catch was dropped, Bumrah would cover his face with his hands. Labuschagne, Green, Paine all were reprieved once each off his bowling and they made India pay eventually.

1. Rohit crosses 50 but throws his wicket away

Rohit Sharma once again looked comfortable in the second innings. He played some sumptuous strokes and kept Australia at bay adding 71 runs with Gill. It seemed as if he was determined to play a big knock and crossed the 50-run mark in the process as well. But with only 15 minutes to go for stumps, Rohit played a pull shot off Cummins only to be caught by Starc at fine leg. He once again threw away his wicket and could’ve avoided playing the shot given India’s situation in the match.
