Asia XI and World XI to confront each other in Bangladesh next year

T20Is

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that it will be hosting two T20Is between Asia XI and World XI to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. BCB president Nazmul Hassan confirmed that both matches have received international status during last week’s ICC meeting.

The proposed dates for these T20Is are March 18 and 21, 2020. Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium shall be hosting these historic ties. BCB’s president has also stated that the board will be trying to get the best of available players involved in these games.

“The dates of the matches have been finalized. The matches will take place between March 18 and March 21. We have not contacted anyone yet, but players from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take part alongside the Bangladesh cricketers in Asia XI,” said Nazmul.

“We will have to discount players from teams who will have FTP (Future Tours Program) series in that time. We will make the best possible teams from the available players.

“One good thing that happened is that all the other boards have supported this proposal and it has been decided that the match will get international status.”

India’s participation in the two-match tournament remains under doubt as they will be hosting South Africa for an ODI series in that duration. However, their T20 specialists may earn an opportunity to be a part of this venture.
