Ashes 2021-22: Mark Wood’s beamer leaves Travis Head astounded
Australia and England are currently up on day two of the Ashes Test where a Beamer by Mark Wood left settled Travis Head shaking. In the 81st over of the game, Wood came up to place delivery and it looked like the new ball just slipped out of his hands to directly hit Head on chin and jaws through his gloves.
Right after the incident took place, Wood went up to apologize to the batter who was seen struggling a bit for the moment and fell flat. Physios were called up on the field and after the formalities, the batter was good to go and continued his game. It has to be also noted that Head’s 100 came up as the fastest known Test century at the Gabba. The last fastest was by Joe Burns back in 2015.
Talking of the game, the hosts stunned the visitors by wrapping up on just 147 runs on day one of the Ashes opener where Pat Cummins’ five-for turned out to be extremely significant. On day two of the game, David Warner smashed 94 runs while Marnus Labuschagne went to add 74 runs. Head has come up with a valiant century and is still on the crease (at the time of writing this article).

In the same process, a few no-balls came to the fore which were not called by the umpire and it fumed former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting. It was delivery by Ben Stokes that dismissed Warner only to be reversed after seeing the no-ball replay.
“If someone upstairs is supposed to be checking these and they haven’t decided that any of those are a no-ball, that’s just pathetic officiating as far as I’m concerned. It led to what we saw late in the over. If he’d have been called for a no-ball the first one he bowled, then of course he’s going to drag his foot back. I’m not sure what’s happened. I’m keen to hear why it hasn’t happened earlier,” said Ponting earlier while speaking to Channel 7.
