Ashes 2021-22: 5th Test match moved out of Perth
The city of Perth will not host the 5th and final Ashes Test match between Australia and England. The 5th rubber is scheduled to commence on 14th January 2022. The pandemic related restrictions as well as the strict border controls that were in place was the reason why the Test match has been moved out of the venue.
And, Nick Hockley, the CEO of Cricket Australia (CA) said that he is disappointed that the 5th Ashes Test match has been moved away from Perth. Adding that he acknowledges the efforts put in by the Western Australia Govt, Hockley reckoned that Cricket Australia (CA) tried their best to make the arrangements, but in vain.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of the WA Government, relevant agencies and Perth Stadium over recent months. We are very disappointed that we are unable to stage the fifth Vodafone men’s Ashes Test at Perth Stadium.
We did everything we could in partnership with the WA Government and WA Cricket to make it work under the current border and health arrangements, but unfortunately, this was not possible,” said Nick Hockley as quoted by Cricbuzz.
We are particularly disappointed for Western Australian cricket fans: Nick Hockley
Hockley also added that he is disappointed because the Western Australian fans of the game will not be able to witness the first-ever Ashes Test match to be played at this venue.
“We are particularly disappointed for Western Australian cricket fans who were so looking forward to seeing the first-ever Ashes Test at the new stadium,” concluded Nick Hockley.
The 1st Ashes Test match between Australia and England will be held at The Gabba in Brisbane and will commence on 8th December 2021. Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney will host the next 3 Tests. The venue for the 5th Ashes Test match has not yet been finalized.
