Ashes 2021-22: 3rd Test, Day 1 Review – Australia take the honours
Yet again, England produced a mediocre performance with the willow. Batting first in the 3rd Ashes Test match, the Joe Root led side was bowled out for just 185 on Day 1. In reply, the Aussies ended the day with their scorecard reading 61/1, and they are only 124 runs behind England. Let us take a look at the three talking points of Day 1 of the 3rd Ashes Test match.
3. Pat Cummins rips through the England top order

Pat Cummins rattled the England top order on Day 1 of the 3rd Ashes Test match. Cummins first removed Haseeb Hameed for a duck in the second over of the match. The right-arm pacer then bowled a probing delivery on the off-stump channel to Zak Crawley, and the England opener edged the ball to the slip cordon.
Cummins then took the wicket of Dawid Malan in the 27th over of the England innings. The Aussie skipper bowled a full-length delivery, and Malan edged the red cherry to the slip cordon. England were reduced to 61/3, and did not recover after that.
2. Joe Root fights a lone battle

Yet again, the England batting lineup faltered, and yet again, only skipper Joe Root took the fight to Australia. Root scored 50 off 82 deliveries, as the other England batters failed to step up. In fact, apart from Root, no other England batter crossed even the 40-run mark, and the visitors were bowled out for a total of less than 200.
1. Haseeb Hameed’s torrid run continues
Haseeb Hameed’s abysmal run with the willow in The Ashes continued. The right-hander was dismissed for a 10-ball duck in the 1st innings of the 3rd Test. To a delivery that pitched outside off stump and held its line, Hameed offered a defensive shot.
However, the ball took the outside edge of his willow and settled into the hands of the keeper. This was Hameed’s second duck in the series, and he has aggregated just 58 runs in 5 innings so far at a mediocre average of 11.60.
