Amit Mishra takes a dig at England following loss to Ireland
England locked horns with neighbours Ireland in their second fixture of the Super 12 stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday, October 26. In a pleasant turn of events for Ireland, England lost the match due to the Duckworth Lewis method that came into play towards the later half of the second innings.
The defeat at this stage of the marquee tournament could prove to be critical for England’s campaign. As the rain gods showed no mercy on England, match officials decided to abandon the game thereby handing Ireland a historic win by five runs (D/L method).
Veteran India leggie takes dig at England
Veteran leg spinner Amit Mishra took to Twitter and posted a tweet taking a dig at the English side after their loss to Ireland.
“Congratulations @cricketireland on a massive victory. Hope England doesn’t say winning through DLS isn’t in the spirit of the game,” wrote Mishra in his tweet.
Ireland started off the second innings decently after posting a competitive total of 157. In response, as the England batters came to the crease, wickets tumbled in quick time and they were immediately on the backfoot. However, Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali were not done just yet as both tried to resurrect England’s dwindling chase. But Malan fell at an individual score of 35 and was followed by Harry Brook who made 18.
That was when the mild showers began and the covers were brought onto the pitch. As the showers began to increase, officials had to call it off and Ireland won because England were five short of their Duckworth Lewis’ par target. England will now take on Australia in their next game on Friday, October 28.
