The second leg of the Indian Premier League 2021 is about to begin in the United Arab Emirates. During the first leg of the tournament, some of the players had tested COVID-19 positive, which in fact played a role in the suspension of the tournament midway through the season. Delhi Capitals’ spinner Amit Mishra was one of them.

In a recent interaction, he opened up about his recovery and how he suffered during that time. He was part of the Capitals’ unit that won six out of their eight matches at the time of the suspension. He was with the squad in Ahmedabad when he was tested positive.

It was difficult for me during the recovery phase: Amit Mishra

“After the IPL was suspended in May, I focused on my recovery from Covid-19. According to the advice given to me by the doctors, I improved my fitness slowly and steadily,” he said in a team release. “It was difficult for me during the recovery phase, but I am happy that I am here for the second half of the season. I trained on my own and didn’t go close to anybody after recovery,” Mishra added.

Delhi will play in their first match in the second leg on September 22 in Dubai against Sunrisers Hyderabad. At this moment, it seems that it should be smooth sailing for the franchise to move ahead in the tournament. What is advantageous for them is the fact that the 2020 season was also played in the UAE when they ended as runners-up.

Talking about his training in the lead-up to the second leg, Mishra shared that he got gym equipment like a treadmill and set them up at his own place rather than going to train outside.

Further talking about the situation in which Capitals finds themselves in IPL 2021, Mishra said, “We are at the top of the table right now, but we have to start afresh. We have to set our strategies again. I think every team has an equal chance of doing well now since we are all re-starting the tournament.”
