Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from international cricket

After the heartbreak of being snubbed from the Indian squad for the World Cup, middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu has announced his retirement from international cricket. Reports claim that the decision from Rayudu came after Mayank Agarwal was preferred as the injury replacement for Vijay Shankar over him.

Rayudu was on standby as one of the reserves for the tournament in case of an injury. But despite Shikhar Dhawan and Vijay Shankar being injured at different points in the tournament, the selectors and team management have decided to overlook the batsman. Just a few months before the start of the World Cup, Rayudu was a guaranteed starter in the eyes of many at the No.4 slot.

In a six-year international career for the Men in Blue, Rayudu played 55 ODIs for India. In 50 innings, he scored 1694 runs at a healthy average of 47.06. He has 3 centuries and 10 half-centuries to his name with a highest score of 124. He has also played 6 T20Is for the country, scoring 42 runs in 5 innings at an average of 10.5
