All you need to know about the 1st round of the T20 World Cup 2022
The T20 World Cup 2022 is all set to kick-start on October 16, and the event will witness a total of 16 teams vying for the T20 trophy in Australia. The marquee event will be hosted across seven Australian cities namely Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Geelong, Hobart, Sydney, and Melbourne.
The knockouts will be played at the iconic SCG and the Adelaide oval, followed by the finals at the MCG. Just like the previous edition of the tournament, the T20 World Cup will be played in three different rounds this year too.
The event will start with the First-Round games, followed by the Super 12 stage, and it will conclude with the knockouts, which include the semi-finals and Finals. Eight teams will compete in the First Round.
Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies qualified based on their finish in the 2021 edition. Ireland, Netherlands, UAE, and Zimbabwe advanced later after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, which Zimbabwe won.
The eight teams have been split into two groups (A and B) of four each. The teams that end in the first and second positions of each group will move further into the Super 12 stage.
