AFG vs ZIM: A quick look at the Test records of Afghanistan and Zimbabwe

Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are scheduled to play the two-match Test series from 2nd march in UAE. Asghar Afghan will be leading the Afghanistan side in this series while the Zimbabwe team will be captained by Sean Williams. Afghanistan might miss the services of their star spinner Rashid Khan owing to a finger injury which he sustained in the Pakistan Super League. Both teams will also play a 3-match T20I series after the completion of the Test series.

Afghanistan Test record

Afghanistan have only played 4 Test matches till now of which they have won 2 and lost 2. They played their first-ever Test match against India in 2018, in which they were decimated in only 2 days. In the second Test, they defeated Ireland by 7 wickets.

They achieved a victory against Bangladesh at their home in Chattogram Test, 2019. Afghanistan last played a Test match in November 2019, where they lost to West Indies by 9 wickets.

In the individual segment, Rahmat Shah has scored the most Test runs (298) for the team at an average of 37.25. In the bowling tally, Rashid has picked the most wickets (23).

Zimbabwe’s Test record

Zimbabwe have played a total of 110 matches in Test cricket so far. They have won only 12 of these while losing in 70 matches and 28 Tests have ended in a draw. They last played a Test match in 2019, where they were defeated by Bangladesh by an innings and 106 runs. The last win of Zimbabwe in Test format came back in 2018 when they defeated Bangladesh by 151 runs.

Among the current players of the Zimbabwe team, Sikandar Raza is the only player to score over 1000 runs in Test cricket. Captain Sean Williams is behind him with 770 runs at an average of 33.47. In the bowling record too, Sikandar Raza has the most wickets (32) to his name among current players.
