Aakash Chopra picks five Indians to be thoroughly observed on Sri Lanka tour
India would be up against Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is from July 13. As many youngsters are on the tour, their performance will be thoroughly observed so as to hand over them better opportunities in the future. In the same light, former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra came up with a list of five players who would be keenly watched on the tour.
Before considering the names, Chopra made it clear that names like Bhuvneshwar Kumar or Yuzvendra Chahal who already have enough international experience won’t be considered here. He began his list with mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy saying that he hasn’t played any international game up till now and will be the one to watch out for.
“The first name on my list is someone who has never played international cricket. His name is Varun Chakravarthy. If we see the Indian bowling department, a mystery spinner is not there. Once you have a mystery spinner, you feel your bowling is complete,” said Chopra as quoted by Sportskeeda.
The former cricketer added Prithvi Shaw next to his list as he felt that the talented youngster is in red hot form in the current times. The list then moved to Mumbai batter Suryakumar Yadav who made his India debut this year only. His performance in this series can open several future prospects for him.
Suryakumar Yadav has been absolutely sensational: Aakash Chopra
“At number three, I have kept Suryakumar Yadav. He has been absolutely sensational, there is no doubt about that. The ability to bat both up and down the order separates him from the rest. He has got the all-round game,” Chopra added.
The fourth name came of T20I specialist pacer Deepak Chahar who was sidelined in the England series. Chopra believes that Chahar would be keen to deliver in the island nation. He concluded his list by stating that either Ishan Kishan or Sanju Samson can take the final spot on this list. It will be a thing to see which one of them takes the field with India.
