Twitter pays tribute to elderly fan seen cheering her heart out for Team India

In the match between India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston, it was an elderly 87-year old woman who stole the show. India had feverish support in Birmingham as they edged out a victory against Bangladesh, but it was Charulata Patel who impressed one and all with her unending love for the game.

Immediately after she featured on the big screen during the contest, Twitterati was quick to lavish praise upon her passion for the game. Here are a few of them:

After the match, Indian team captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma also took some time out to personally meet up with and seek the blessings of Patel:

Virat Kohli also personally paid tribute to Patel on his personal Twitter account, writing, “Also would like to thank all our fans for all the love & support & especially Charulata Patel ji. She’s 87 and probably one of the most passionate & dedicated fans I’ve ever seen. Age is just a number, passion takes you leaps & bounds. With her blessings, on to the next one.

Patel in an interview with ANI said after the match, “I have been watching cricket for last many decades, from the time I was in Africa. Earlier I used to watch on TV when I was working, but now that I am retired I watch it live.

It’s brilliant the kind of passion which this particular fan has for the Indian cricket team. Team India are extremely lucky in this regard, as they have one of the most passionate fan bases in the world, who have supported them through thick and thin. It is also amazing to see two of the biggest superstars in Indian cricket, Kohli and Rohit to personally acknowledge the efforts put in by Patel, who at the grand old age of 87, has not let her love for the game flicker out.
