Watch: Troy Johnson produces jaw-dropping catch in the ongoing Super Smash
Wellington Innings’ Troy Johnson produced a jaw-dropping moment in the ongoing Super Smash which left the commentators and spectators spellbound. Will Young lifted the ball over the bowler’s head in the powerplay and following which, Johnson ran close to the boundary and dived to pick up the catch. However, as he was very close to the fence, the 26-year-old decided to throw it back but fortunately, Michael Snedden was at the right place to catch the ball.
With that, Young’s short stay at the crease came to an end as he got out for seven runs off 11 deliveries. On the other hand, Johnson’s teammates were delighted with his effort as they all celebrated together. The commentators couldn’t believe it as they labeled it ‘unbelievable’ on air.
Central Districts won the match by six wickets
Batting first, Wellington posted 147 runs on board. The openers failed to get going as they were 21/3 at one point of the game. However, Muhammad Abbas took control of the situation and hit 35 runs off 29 deliveries to help the team come out of the situation. Johnson made 17 runs but he never looked comfortable with the bat. Towards the fag end, Logan van Beek played a brilliant cameo of 41* runs off 24 deliveries, which helped Wellington post a respectable total on board.
When it came to the chase, Nick Kelly’s early wicket of Young gave the hosts some momentum but they failed to get going. Jack Boyle stole the show with his 57 runs off 43 deliveries, and following this, it became difficult for Wellington to make any sort of comeback. Doug Bracewell later joined the party and 30* runs off 11 deliveries as the Districts picked up an easy win. Logan van Beek meanwhile conceded 53 runs in 3.5 overs, which remains to be a concern.
