Vijay Shankar ruled out of World Cup, Mayank Agarwal named his replacement
Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar has been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup with a toe injury. Opener Mayank Agarwal will now fly to England as his replacement.
Shankar missed India’s fixture against England, which ended in a 31-run loss for the team. He was replaced in the side by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. Shankar was India’s designated No.4 before the start of the tournament but lost his place to KL Rahul after the latter’s good form in the warm-up matches. Shankar got his place back in the side in the fixture against Pakistan after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the tournament with a thumb injury.

But his bad luck has now continued after it was revealed that his toe niggle was more serious than initially thought to be, ruling him out of action for an extended duration. His replacement, Mayank Agarwal an opener by trade is yet to make his ODI debut for India. But he has an excellent record in England for India A, scoring 3 centuries in List A cricket in the last two years.
It now remains to be seen what team combination does India opt for in the remaining matches. Will KL Rahul continue to bat at the top of the order? Or will Mayank Agarwal walk straight into the lineup as an opener with Rahul moving back at No.4?
