Alyssa Healy looks forward to lead Australian women’s team
Veteran Australia women’s cricketer Meg Lanning shocked the cricket world after she announced her retirement from international cricket at the age of just 31. Stepping down from the role, there have been many discussions over who will lead Australia women in the future, and the name of Alyssa Healy continues to stay at the forefront.
With a T20I World Cup, an ODI World Cup, and home Ashes scheduled for 2024 and 2025, the discussion of who will lead Australia women in the future will be much discussed. However, the role of leader is nothing new for Healy. The 33-year-old has filled in for Lanning quite a bit, and talking of taking up the role in the longer run, Healy opined that she would be up for leading Australia women in the future.
“I’ve been filling in the anticipation that Meg will come back, but at the end of the day the decision of who the next skipper will be is up to the powers that be, whether they look long term or short term I’m not 100% certain on that,” Alyssa Healy was quoted as saying ESPNcricinfo.
“I’ve had a nice little taste of it and, yes, 100% I would put my hand up to do it again if called upon. But that’s for somebody else to decide and if it is somebody else then I’ll happily support them as best as I can for the rest of my career,” she added.
