Bangladesh Cricket mulls over making changes in coaching setup
Bangladesh have been in tatters after their most recent loss to the Netherlands in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. As a result, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been mulling over making significant changes in their coaching setup in the aftermath of how the team has performed in the marquee event. As per the latest development, the BCB has revealed that the head coach Chandiika Hathurusingha and the assistant coach Nick Pothas will not face the wrath of the cricket governing body of the Bangla Tigers and will continue to serve the team ahead.
However, the fast bowling coach Allan Donald and the spin bowling coach Rangana Herath will not get a contract extension from the BCB if the sources are to be believed. Besides, the analyst of the Bangladesh team Shrinivas Chandrasekaran will also leave the team after the ODI World Cup. Interestingly, Chandrasekaran was offered an extension after the World Cup but citing personal reasons, he has decided not to continue. Meanwhile, the team’s fielding coach Shane Mc Dermott is also under scrutiny. BCB is displeased to hand him a contract extension.
Now, speaking of Bangladesh, they have had a dismal campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 so far. The team has lost five matches in tandem. The impact it created on the team can be understood by the fact that the skipper Shakib Al Hasan was forced to call it one of the worst World Cup performances despite the team having the potential to do much better. When it comes to their past history of moving ahead from one coach to another, BCB had discontinued with their former Englishman and coach, Steve Rhodes.
No coaches harmed us, whoever worked with us has helped us: Taskin Ahmed
Quite fascinatingly, ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 game against the Netherlands, the ace Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed was asked about his views on the continuous juggling of the coaching setup and its impact on him and his counterparts, he said that some things are between the coaches and boards and it has nothing to do with the players. Besides, Taskin did not miss out on adding that all the coaches under whom Bangladesh has trained and played have always been helpful in the continuous growth of the team over time. Hence, the pacer believes that Rhodes left parted ways with BCB on amicable terms.
“No coaches harmed us but everyone have a time limit. At times it is extended and at times it is not and there are times when the coach doesn’t want to stay while there are times when the board doesn’t want to keep the coach. When they leave there are lot of talks that there was this and that problem and it happens for most of them when they are leaving but how much it is true even we don’t know and later we come to know that he is leaving for this or that reason but whoever worked with us has helped us,” Ahmed was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
