The breakfast sledge that fired up Starc against England

Mitchell Starc has revealed an interesting detail of how an epic banter with an English fan at Lord’s fired him up for his spell against their arch-rivals at the World Cup. Starc was in devastating form, registering figures of 4-43 which helped Australia to a 64 runs victory. With the win, the Aussies became the first side to qualify for the semis, while also pouring cold water on the chances of their eternal rivals.

Starc’s blistering yorker to dismiss Ben Stokes, who was settled and threatening to take the game away, in particular, wowed the masses. Watch the scintillating delivery below:

And it all started with some epic banter between Starc and a fan while the pacer was having breakfast. This was brought to attention by his wife and Australian women’s cricketer Alyssa Healy with a tweet.

Quipped about this in the post-match conference, Starc confirmed the story, saying, “Someone was having a go at my strapping tape and me eating too much and how it was going to affect my bowling. I was just hungry.

When further probed as to whether the pacer knew who the fan was, he replied, “I dunno, some bloke in a suit.

Finally, asked about what he was eating for breakfast which prompted the sledge, Starc replied, “A few poached eggs … three I think.

Starc also added that there was nothing malicious about the sledge and it was all in good jest, “It was just a bit of fun, he was having a laugh at my strapping tape and what I was eating so it’s all been good fun throughout the tour so far (with) the crowds and around hotels.

With 4 wickets in the match, Starc now has 19 scalps in the current edition of the tournament and sits on top of the wicket-taking charts.
