We have burning desire to win ODI World Cup: Adam Zampa
Australia have won five ODI World Cups, the last of them coming back in 2015. They will be going into the 2023 ODI World Cup in India as one of the favourites. Pat Cummins and Co. managed to win the World Test Championship final earlier this year and they will be looking to add more silverware to their glorious trophy cabinet.
Adam Zampa will have to play a crucial role in the upcoming ODI World Cup with all his experience of playing in Indian conditions. The leg-spinner reminisced about Australia winning the 2021 T20 World Cup and wanted to taste the feeling of lifting the 50-over World Cup as well. Australia lost to England in the semifinals of the 2019 World Cup and Zampa wants his team to go the distance in the upcoming edition of the showpiece event.
“Winning that T20 World Cup was one of the best feelings I have had on the cricket field and winning the 50-over World Cup would be a pretty similar feeling I would assume. You don’t get the chance to win World Cups very often,” Zampa said during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour.
“We are still thinking about that World Cup we won a couple of years ago (2021) and are trying to recreate that feeling. We were disappointed with our 2019 World Cup and how that finished and we still have that burning desire to win a one-day World Cup.”
Our one-day cricket has been really good for a long time: Adam Zampa
The 31-year-old mentioned that Australia have been doing well for a considerable amount of time in ODI cricket. They are currently placed second on the ICC team rankings for ODIs.
“Our one-day cricket has been really good for a long time and we are one of the best teams in the world according to the ICC rankings. We have been playing really good one-day cricket lately so hopefully the boys have played enough cricket or had enough rest so that when we get to India we are ready to go,” the spinner concluded.
Australia are set to play a five-match ODI series against South Africa before playing a three-match ODI series versus India.
