South Africa name 15-men squad for ODI World Cup
South Africa have named their 15-member squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup on Setpember 5. Experienced batter Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Captain Bavuma, Hendricks, Markram, Miller, and van der Dussen are the specialist batters in the line-up. While Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen are the two wicketkeeping options in the side with Tristan Stubbs missing out.
The squad includes six pacers: Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Sisanda Magala, Gerald Coetzee, and Marco Jansen. While Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will handle the spin-bowling department. The talented Dewald Brevis could not find a spot in the side. Lizaad Williams, who was the highest wicket-taker in their most recent T20I series against Australia, also missed out.
South Africa are set to play a five-match ODI series at home against Australia. After this series, Temba Bavuma and Co. will play two WC warm-up matches against Afghanistan and South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram. In the showpiece event, they will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on October 7 in Delhi.
South Africa have had some great World Cup squads over the years. However, the Poteas have not been able to win the coveted title. They will be looking to end the drought in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5 with a clash between defending champions England and New Zealand.
