We will soon see Jaiswal and Varma bowl at least one over: Paras Mhambrey

Over the past decade, India have suffered a lot for not having a sixth bowling option. For the majority part of the time, Hardik Pandya was injured or used to be one of the five bowlers in order to make some room for another specialist batter. This has created a lot of problems, and the team management thus is focused to build more all-rounders who can chip in from time to time.

With that goal in mind, India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey is currently working with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma. Both cricketers used to be part-time bowlers during their U-19 days but have not bowled in their senior careers. Hence, Mhambrey wants to change that and bring out the best in them.

Speaking about the new development, the 51-year-old mentioned that they are good bowlers to have in the mix and added saying that the duo will soon start bowling in international matches, even if it is just one over.

“When you have someone who can chip in, it is nice. I have seen Tilak and Yashasvi bowl since U19 days. They are capable of being good bowlers. They can work on it at this level. When you got options like these, it is nice to have them. We will see them bowl soon hopefully, we are working on it. It will take time. Soon, we will see them bowling an over at least,” Mhambrey said in the pre-match press conference.

Mukesh Kumar has been a force to reckon with in recent times. He was terrific for Bengal in the red-ball format and courtesy of which, the ace pacer was called up to the national squad. After having a decent impact on his Test debut, Mukesh is also making a mark in the white-ball format. Speaking about the same, Mhambrey mentioned that he is extremely happy with Mukesh’s progress and added saying that his thought process and approach are fabulous.

“I am extremely happy with his (Mukesh’s) progress. Not many guys get a chance to play all three formats on one tour. He is the second maybe. To do so is fantastic. His thought process and approach are fabulous. He is someone who should come here, play against tough opponents and wickets. I am happy with the character he has shown. We will have to be smart about his workload. He is a young kid, has played a lot of domestic cricket. There is a lot of quality,” he added.
