Pakistan announce teams for Asia Cup, Afghanistan series
The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) came forward to announce their squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 and for the side’s forthcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. It was announced that an 18-player squad will take on Afghanistan between August 22 and August 26, respectively.
Furthermore, the squad will be trimmed to 15 players for the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to begin on August 30 with Sri Lanka and Pakistan co-hosting the marquee event.
In the squad that was announced for the series and the tournament, it was made clear that Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, would be leading the side with Shadab Khan being named as his deputy.
Pakistan will play Afghanistan in Sri Lanka in a bid to prepare for Asia Cup
The side will be arriving in Hambantota on August 18, for their three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, and the players will be arriving for a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on August 14, 15, and 16, respectively. Thereafter, they will be departing for Sri Lanka on August 17.
With the Asia Cup 2023 looming around the corner, it could be interesting to see how Pakistan fares in the 50-over format of the competition. With the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan in the side, accompanied by the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. Pakistan boast a well-balanced squad and they will look to get their hands on the coveted title ahead of the much anticipated ODI World Cup 2023.
