Best bowling figures in India-West Indies ODIs
India and West Indies have had a 44-year-long history in ODI cricket and the two teams have played 142 matches against each other where India have won 72 matches while West Indies have won 64. Over the years, several great bowlers from both teams have graced the field and put on some marvellous performances for their teams. As India and West Indies recent ODI series came to an end, let’s take a look at the top three best bowling performances in IND-WI ODIs:
3. Viv Richards (6/41), Delhi, 8th Match, Nehru Cup, October 23, 1989
After being put in to bat first, West Indies could only score 196/9 in 45 overs. In reply, India found Viv Richards’ off-spin too hard to handle as he scalped 6/41 in 9.1 overs. He picked up the wickets of Mohinder Amarnath, Mohammad Azharuddin, Ravi Shastri, Kapil Dev, Kiran More and Arshad Ayub to skittle out India for 176. He was deservedly awarded Player of the Match for scoring 44 (42) and his six-fer.
2. Patrick Patterson (6/29), 1st ODI, Nagpur, December 08, 1987
Batting first, West Indies could only manage to score 203/8 in their allotted 50 overs with Carl Hooper top scoring with 57* (84). Defending a low total for his team, Patrick Patterson wreaked havoc with the new ball and reduced India to 31/5. He further returned to dismiss the well-set Kapil Dev (87) and Kiran More (33) breaking their 113-run stand and setting up a 10-run victory for his side. Patterson was rightfully awarded Player of the Match for picking 6/29 during the game.
1. Anil Kumble (6/12), Hero Cup Final, Eden Gardens, November 27, 1993
Batting first, India posted 225/7 on the board with Vinod Kambli top scoring with 68 (90). In the second innings, Anil Kumble ran through the West Indies batting order and bundled them out for just 123 in the second innings. He picked up 6/12 in 6.1 overs and was awarded Player of the Match in the big final.
