Jasprit Bumrah will have an important role in World Cup: Wasim Jaffer
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer reckoned that speedster Jasprit Bumrah will have a vital role in the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The showpiece event is slated to be contested during October-November in India.
Bumrah has been sidelined since September 2022 after back surgery. According to a recent update by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the 29-year-old fast bowler is in the final stages of his rehab and resumed his bowling in the nets.
Jaffer was questioned whether every fan must be awaiting Bumrah’s comeback the most, during a discussion on JioCinema. To which he responded that the 29-year-old is a huge part of India’s bowling attack and everyone is missing his bowling in death overs. The former India opener added that if he will bowl at the same pace upon his return, there won’t be anyone better than him.
“He is a huge part of the bowling attack. I feel he will have an extremely important role in the World Cup. We are missing him in death bowling. We have missed him this entire year. However, he needs to come back to fitness, and there will be a question mark whether he will be able to bowl the same way, at the same pace. If does that, there can’t be anything better than that,” the 45-year-old said.
Bumrah is extremely important, not for one, but all formats: Ishant Sharma
Veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah’s significance to India at the forthcoming World Cup. The 34-year-old stated that the speedster can play a crucial role for India in all formats and he needs to regain his fitness.
“He is extremely important, not for one, but all formats. However, keeping the World Cup in mind, he is a very important player. He has won India so many matches in tough conditions. He is a senior player as well. He captained the side in a Test match as well. So according to me, Jasprit Bumrah will remain the leader of the pack in the World Cup. So it is extremely important for him to get fit,” said Ishant.
