The multi-format series between India and the West Indies is right around the corner, with the two-Test series kicking off from July 12. 3) 293 – Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Carl Hooper at Georgetown in 2002

Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Carl Hooper hold the record for the third-highest partnership when playing Tests against India. Both batters achieved the feat back in 2002 in the fourth Test of the series. India posted 513 runs on the board and declared in the first innings. As the Windies came out to bat, skipper Hooper and Chanderpaul played brilliantly in the middle order. Both batters scored 136 runs each and helped the side gain a considerable lead.

2) 296 – Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes at ST John’s in 1983

Two greats Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes lit the stage on fire in the fifth Test of the series when India toured the West Indies in 1983. Batting first, India notched up 457 runs on the board in the first innings.

In response, Greenidge and Haynes opened the innings for the West Indies and brought the Indian team to their knees. Greenidge scored 154, whereas Haynes amassed 136, building a partnership of 296 runs. Posting 550 runs, the match was eventually drawn as India scored 247 runs in their second innings and declared.

1) 344 – Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar at Eden Gardens in 1978

Legendary Indian batters Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar hold the record for the highest partnership when playing against the West Indies. The record was set at the Eden Gardens in 1978. Batting first, India notched up 300 runs on the board in the first innings.

In response, the West Indies scored 327 runs and gained a slender lead. Coming out to bat in the second innings, Gavaskar scored 182 runs, whereas Vengsarkar amassed 157 as India declared on 361. Eventually, the match resulted in a draw as the hosts failed to bundle out the West Indies
