WTC 2021-23: Top run-getters

After a two-year long cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), Pat Cummins’ Australia attained glory as they beat team India by a humongous 209 runs at The Oval in London to clinch the coveted mace. In the process, the Aussies became the first team to win all ICC titles across formats. With the conclusion of the WTC 2021-23 cycle, there have been several notable performances both with the bat and with the ball. In this piece, we take a look at the top three highest run-getters of the 2021-23 cycle of the WTC-

3. Marnus Labuschagne | 1576 runs | Australia

The Aussie middle-order batter was at his absolute best with the bat for his side as he collected 1576 runs during the cycle. In addition to this, he laced it with five half-centuries and as many tons in 20 outings, concluding the campaign with a stellar average of 52.53.

2. Usman Khawaja | 1621 runs | Australia

Khawaja slammed the second-most runs during the WTC 2021-23 cycle as he garnered 1621 runs in just 17 appearances for the Aussies. Playing invaluable knocks on numerous occasions for his side, the southpaw got as many as six tons and seven fifties during the two-year time period.

1. Joe Root | 1915 runs | England

The Test specialist- England’s Joe Root scored the most runs during the ICC WTC 2021-23 cycle. In his 22 matches, the right-hander got close to the 2000-run mark as he got 1915 runs. It is no secret that the batter holds numerous records in the longest format as he most recently breached the 11,000-run mark in his Test career during a One-off Test against Ireland. However, his impressive campaign in the WTC cycle includes eight centuries, the most by any batter. In addition to this, he also has six fifties in his 22 matches for the English side.
