World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table 2021-23
A hard-fought battle among several top Test-playing nations over the last couple of years has culminated with table toppers Australia, and last edition’s runner-ups, India, qualifying for the WTC Finals to be held at the Oval. The two red-ball sides will tussle in the summit clash, commencing on June 7.
Australia was the first team to qualify for the final on the back of their dominant showing in red-ball cricket over the last two years, including a 4-0 battering of arch-rivals England in the Ashes. Although, it wasn’t smooth sailing for the Aussies, as Tim Paine’s scandalous exit from the leadership role at the fag end of 2021 saw the team searching for a new captain amidst a hectic schedule.
However, Pat Cummins has done a commendable job ever since taking over the leadership duties and will be eyeing his first major coup as the Australian skipper in June. Meanwhile, their upcoming opponents, India, have had their fair share of troubles that included Virat Kohli vacating his leadership role in 2021.
With their qualification hopes hanging by a thread, the Asian giants upped the ante in the latter part of their campaign, winning six of their last nine Tests, including a series victory against rivals Australia. While India qualified for the final for a second time running, defending champions New Zealand failed to live up to their reputation, managing just four wins in their 13 matches.
