Most wickets in WTC for India
Batters win you matches and bowlers win tournaments is arguably the most heard cricketing phrase ever. Well, in Test cricket, it is definitely the case. Former India skipper Virat Kohli prioritized having a very strong bowling unit as that is one of the reasons behind team India’s success in the longest format of the game in recent times.
Under Rohit Sharma, the process didn’t change as more and more bowlers got an opportunity and almost everyone stepped up to deliver. Courtesy of this, India once again managed to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship. However, who are the three cricketers who have the most number of wickets in the WTC for India? Let’s discuss
3. Jasprit Bumrah- 79
Even though the ace pacer is currently out injured, he has been a force to reckon with for India in the longest format of the game. In 20 matches, Bumrah has picked up 79 wickets, which is the third-highest by any bowler for India. He has five five-wicket hauls to his name in the competition, which is the joint-highest by any cricketer for India.
2. Mohammed Shami- 81
Mohammed Shami has been terrific in the longest format of the game for quite some time now. In WTC, the pacer has picked up 81 wickets in 23 matches, which is the second-highest by an Indian. The pacer will play a crucial role against Australia in the 2023 WTC final, especially with Bumrah out of action.
1. Ravichandran Ashwin- 132
Ravichandran Ashwin’s consistency is his biggest plus point. The spin wizard has picked up 132 wickets in 27 matches in WTC; with that, he is currently the top bowler on the most wickets list. He has been extremely successful and because of the same, he is currently the number one ranked Test bowler in the world.
