Shubman Gill and his century streak in Ahmedabad
If you ask Shubman Gill, which one wicket would he love to carry in his pocket everywhere he goes, we know his answer. It has to be the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The batter is currently treating it as his home ground as he is the opener of Gujarat Titans. Let’s revisit some of his heroics at this venue.
126* vs New Zealand (T20I)
In February, this year, Shubman Gill went berserk in Ahmedabad against New Zealand in the 3rd T20I of the series. Opening the innings, Gill ended up playing all 20 overs as he amassed a record-breaking score of 126*. It was not only his first century in T20I cricket but also India’s highest individual score in the format. India racked up 234/4 in their 20 overs owing to Gill’s heroics and won the match by a margin of 168 runs.
128 vs Australia (Test)
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was one of the highlights this year. The 4th Test in Ahmedabad became one of the most high-profile games with the Indian and Australian Prime Minister in attendance. Gill once again impressed one and all with his knock of 128. In reply to Australia’s 480, India managed a score of 571. Gill and Virat Kohli (186) were India’s centurions in this game.
94* vs Lucknow (IPL)
Before scoring his maiden IPL ton, Gill missed out on an opportunity. He and his opening partner Wriddhiman Saha ran a riot. The duo added 142 runs for the first wicket. While Saha departed after scoring 81, Gill accelerated in search of his maiden IPL ton. However, with Hardik Pandya and David Miller adding the finishing touches, Gill finished with unbeaten 94 runs.
101 vs Hyderabad (IPL)
Batting first against the Sunrisers, Gill finally latched on the opportunity and celebrated his maiden IPL hundred. Gujarat played the game in a unique lavender jersey to spread awareness about cancer. Gill stepped up his game in Ahmedabad and finished with an innings of 101 off 58 balls. His knock consisted of only one six yet he maintained a strike rate of 174. The home team won the rubber by 34 runs.
