Rasikh Salam banned for two years by BCCI for age fraud
Pacer Rasikh Salam who played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2019 edition of the IPL has been handed a two-year ban by the BCCI for producing a faulty birth certificate. Following the ban, he has also been pulled out from the India U-19 squad for the one-day tri-series in England against the hosts and Bangladesh. Prabhat Maurya has been named as his replacement.
The BCCI also issued a press release confirming the ban, which read, “Mr Rasikh Salam has been banned by the BCCI for two years following a discrepancy – submission of faulty birth certificate to BCCI.”
Salam had recently become the youngest player to play in the IPL, representing the Mumbai Indians after he was picked up in the auctions for a sum of 20 lakhs. He played one match in the IPL, against the Delhi Capitals, conceding runs in four overs and going wicketless. He represents Jammu and Kashmir at the domestic level and made his List A debut in October last year. According to official records, Salam is currently 18 and was born on April 5, 2001.
