IPL: Most sixes in an innings

With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 well underway, there have been several explosive knocks so far. Over the years, the IPL has been famous for providing the best of matches, which included a plethora of sixes being hit as well.

From Chris Gayle to AB de Villiers, there have been many legendary players who were known for muscling the balls out of the ground. Continuing on the same, let us have a look at the top three players with the most sixes hit in an inning.

AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle (12)

Two legendary batters of the IPL, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, are tied for third place with 12 sixes to their names in an innings. de Villiers achieved the feat against Gujarat Lions in the IPL 2017. On the other hand, Gayle muscled the ball 12 times out of the park against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the IPL 2015, in the 40th game of the tournament.

Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum (13)

In second place, Chris Gayle features on the list once again, as he is tied with former New Zealand batter Brendon McCullum. Gayle hit 13 sixes against Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2012 in the 67th game of the competition, whereas McCullum achieved the feat in the very first match of the inaugural IPL, where he dismantled Bangalore’s bowling attack to score a fabulous century.

Chris Gayle (17)

The Universe Boss features in the list once again with a whopping 17 sixes, against Pune Warriors in the 31st game of the IPL 2013. In what is considered one of the best knocks in IPL history, Gayle amassed a whopping 175* runs in just 66 balls as Bangalore notched up 263 runs on the board against Pune.
