Mithali Raj lauds Virat Kohli for taking charge of game vs Delhi Capitals
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a decent campaign so far at the ongoing 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. Faf du Plessis and his men have won a few games easily, but they have also lost games by the barest of margins. With two wins and as many losses from four games played so far, RCB are placed seventh in the points table at the moment.
Though the team lost two games, one player who has been consistent throughout all four games is former RCB skipper Virat Kohli. The former India skipper had been going through a lean patch, and his performances in the previous couple of IPL seasons as well as for team India had deteriorated. But the star batter bounced back to form during the Asia Cup 2022 and has been among the runs ever since.
This year at the IPL 2023, Kohli has shown tremendous skills with the bat, and is fifth among the leading run-scorers of the tournament, and also the highest run-scorer for RCB thus far. Several experts have lauded the 34-year-old for his top form, and legendary India skipper Mithali Raj joined the bandwagon as she lavished praises on Kohli, saying that his knock will inspire his teammates to do well in the tournament.
“An opener setting momentum for team is important in T20s and Virat did just that against Delhi Capitals. Virat charges against the bowlers who are bowling at a speed of 140/150 kmph. He’s never bogged down by the bowlers. The strike rate with which he’s scoring runs in the middle will give the confidence to the other batters to do well when they step in,” she said in a conversation on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Out of the four games that RCB have played so far, three were played at their home ground, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and Kohli notched up all of his three half-centuries at the same venue. His fifty in RCB’s game against the Delhi Capitals helped their side post a decent total of 174/6, and debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak’s three-wicket haul helped the side defend their score.
