T20 cricket is one of the formats filled with full of action and entertainment. It is known as a ‘batters’ format as bowlers are taken to the cleaners right from the word go. A player goes for full monty as the format demands it and he eventually ends up achieving a few milestones. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), there have been plenty of half-centuries scored but many have done it in real quick time in terms of deliveries faced and they feature in this article.

Let’s take a look at the Fastest 50s in the history of the IPL (Top 3):

3. Suresh Raina and Ishan Kishan (16)

Suresh Raina and Ishan Kishan are joint-third for smashing the fastest fifty in the IPL. The duo reached the landmark in 16 deliveries. In Qualifier Two in 2014, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were set a target of 227 by Punjab Kings (PBKS). Raina just went berserk as he smashed 50 in 16 balls and ended his knock at 87 off 25 inside the first six overs. In the 55th match in 2021, Mumbai Indians (MI) batted first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Ishan also got to his 50 in 16 deliveries. His innings ended at 84 off 32 with 11 fours and four sixes.

2. Yusuf Pathan, Sunil Narine, Nicholas Pooran (15)

Yusuf Pathan, Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran are joint-second in this elite chart. In 2014, SRH set a target of 161 for KKR before Yusuf slammed a fifty in no time, scoring 72* off 22 with five fours and seven sixes.

Narine also did the same against RCB in in 2017. Chasing a target of 159, he opened the innings and tonked 54 off 17 with the help of six fours and four maximums at a strike rate of 317.64.

Pooran’s onslaught came recently while playing for Lucknow Super Giants against Royal Challengers Bangalore when he smacked a 15-ball 50 before eventually being dismissed for 62 off 19, including seven mammoth sixes and four fours.

1. KL Rahul and Pat Cummins (14)

KL Rahul and surprisingly Pat Cummins are joint-top for the fastest 50. Rahul’s heroics came while playing for PBKS against Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018. The Capitals, after batting first set a target of 167 for the Kings, and the right-handed batter Rahul wasted no time whatsoever as he hit a 14-ball fifty and got out for 51 off 16 with six fours and four maximums. In the 2022 edition, Cummins joined Rahul in this special chart. Chasing 162 against MI, KKR’s Cummins struck 56 off 15 with four fours and six sixes.
