IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer to join India squad for Delhi Test
Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab and will be joining the Indian team for the second Test against Australia. A media advisory released by the BCCI has confirmed that Iyer has been cleared by the BCCI’s medical team and will be up for selection when India faces Australia on February 17.
Iyer’s absence was not felt in the squad during the first Test, as team India dominated the Aussies throughout the match. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored a fabulous ton while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja impressed with the ball.
Iyer’s inclusion in the squad could sort out the middle order dilemma for India. Suryakumar Yadav was handed his Test debut in the first match along with KS Bharat in Iyer’s absence. Both players were unable to step up to the occasion and perform with the bat.
Australia eager to script comeback
Currently, team India leads the series by 1-0 and will be looking to establish its dominance right away. It will be interesting to see what playing XI India will field in the next match. Shreyas Iyer’s return might lead to the exclusion of Suryakumar.
Australia will look to once again depend on Todd Murphy, who made his debut in the first match. The 22-year-old took seven wickets throughout the match and was the only Australian bowler who India struggled against.
Australia will also look to make some changes in the playing XI. David Warner’s performance in the first Test was underwhelming, but it is likely that the 36-year-old will get another chance in the next match. If the team is able to counter India’s spin attack, they could have a shot at winning the game. Both teams face each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, February 17.
