Ravindra Jadeja found guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Ravindra Jadeja was undoubtedly the star of the first Test match between India and Australia. The 34-year-old all-rounder was exceptional with the ball on Day 1. He picked up a five-wicket haul and put a dent in the Aussies’ plans, who just managed to put 177 in the first innings.

On Day 2, Jadeja performed with the bat as well, scoring a fabulous knock of 70 off 185 balls. His performance was integral for the Indian team in putting up 400 runs on the scoreboard. Following that performance, Jadeja took two wickets in Australia’s second innings. India won the match by an innings and 132 runs.

However, Jadeja’s performance wasn’t the only thing that captured the headlines. On Day 1, the 34-year-old was captured applying pain-soothing ointment to his left hand’s index finger. In an official statement released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jadeja was guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct.

The Indian all-rounder will be fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. In addition to this, a demerit point was added to his disciplinary record as well. Jadeja admitted the offence, which was the reason that a formal hearing on the matter was not required.
