India is no longer the mystery it once was: Greg Chappell
After a humiliating defeat at the hands of India in the last edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Australian side are all charged up to take revenge against the host nation. They had a terrific home season, beating West Indies and South Africa but the series against India will be the final frontier for the Pat Cummins-led side.
Meanwhile, the Australian side have not won a single Test series against India in the last 19 years. They have always been a victim of spin-friendly tracks but former Australia cricketer, Greg Chappell, believes that this time it can change as India doesn’t have the same amount of mystery that it once had. However, he mentioned if the game goes to Day 5, India will emerge victorious.
“The Australians will have to summon every ounce of their talent and experience during the next month to succeed. India is no longer the mystery it once was. Tours are more regular and the IPL offers valuable exposure. Attrition takes a huge toll on touring teams. If India are in the contest on day five, they will win,” Chappell wrote for Sydney Morning Herald.
Delhi and Dharamshala will be a fortress for India: Chappell
As per Chappell, India are likely to produce spin-friendly tracks and Delhi and Dharamsala will be their fortress in the upcoming series. He also stated that the key for Australia would be to take wickets at regular intervals.
“Delhi and Dharamshala will be a fortress for India. Nagpur is a red soil pitch on which batting is best on the first three days unless they produce a raging turner. In Ahmedabad there are red as well as black soil pitches and the state of the series will dictate what India order. To win, Australia must get wickets with the new ball. As the ball gets softer, they must bowl frugally and then reverse-swing the old ball. Spin is more of a weapon in India than in Australia, but we must always play our four best bowlers plus Cameron Green,” said Chappell.
