Most ODI runs for India after 2019 WC
Indian team started the year 2023 with ODI series wins against Sri Lanka and New Zealand after their surprise loss against Bangladesh in December 2022. India are also scheduled to host the One-Day World Cup 2023 later this year and will be strong contenders for the title.
Virat Kohli has already scored two hundreds from five ODIs this year and his performances will be crucial for India’s chances in the upcoming World Cup tournament. He scored 443 runs from nine innings with the help of five fifties during the last edition of the tournament in 2019. But the fans will be hoping for better performances from Kohli and his teammates this year. So, let’s take a look at the top three Indian players with the most runs after the 2019 ODI World Cup.
3) 1313 – Shikhar Dhawan
The veteran Indian opener scored 125 runs from two innings in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He enjoyed a good run in the ODI team in 2022 as he lost his place from T20Is due to poor form. Dhawan has also lost his place in ODIs now as he was not considered for Sri Lanka and New Zealand ODIs this year.
Dhawan, 37, has scored 1313 runs since India’s semi-final loss against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup and is unlikely to break into India’s roster for the 2023 World Cup.
2) 1421 – Shreyas Iyer
The 28-year-old batter was not part of India’s squad for the 2019 ODI World Cup but now remains a crucial figure across formats. Shreyas ended the year 2022 as the leading run-scorer in ODIs 724 runs from just 15 innings at an average of 55.69 and was India’s leading run-scorer across formats. Shreyas has scored 1421 runs since the conclusion of the 2019 ODI World Cup, despite missing India’s latest ODI series against New Zealand with an injury this year.
1) 1487 – Virat Kohli
Kohli took almost three years to score a hundred in November 2019 but remains India’s leading run-scorer in ODIs with 1487 runs in ODIs after the 2019 ODI World Cup. He has scored three hundreds from his last six ODI innings. His latest 166* off 110 against New Zealand highlighted the threat he can possess in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup.
