Batters to score century in their 100th Test since 2000

Warner

Australian opening batter David Warner struck a brilliant double century to register his name in record books during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. While many cricketers have played 100 or more Test matches, only a few have managed to hit a century in their 100th game. While Warner became the 10th cricketer to do so, let us have a look at players to have scored a century in their 100th Test match in the 21st century-

Inzamam-ul-Haq, vs India in 2005

In 2005, former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq struck a brilliant century while playing his 100th Test, against India. It was the final game of the three-match series, and the Pakistan skipper led his team from the front by scoring 184 off 264 deliveries. India’s L Balaji put an end to Inzamam’s 324-run stand with Younis Khan by picking up his wicket.

Ricky Ponting, vs South Africa 2006

When Ricky Ponting hit a century in his 100th Test match, he became the first Australian player to do so. After hitting a century in the first innings against South Africa, Ponting continued his form and notched up a ton in the second innings to become the first and only player to date to hit twin centuries in the 100th Test.

Graeme Smith, vs England in 2012

The former South Africa skipper achieved the feat while playing England. Hosts England put up a tough 385 runs in the first innings, but Smith’s knock of a 273-ball 131 helped South Africa stay alive in the game. He also shared a 259-run partnership alongside Hashim Amla for the second wicket, which helped the Proteas win the game by an innings and 12 runs.

Hashim Amla, vs Sri Lanka in 2017

Hashim Amla became the second Proteas player to achieve the feat after Graeme Smith. While playing his 100th Test against Sri Lanka in 2017, Amla scored a composed 265-ball 134-run knock, which included 16 fours. Amla’s innings helped the Proteas put up 426 runs on board, and later win the game by an innings and 118 runs.

Joe Root, vs India in 2021

Former England skipper Joe Root is the only English player in the 21st century, to have hit a century in the 100th Test. Root converted his century into a double ton and became the first-ever cricketer in Test history to score 200 runs in the 100th Test match. While playing against India in February 2021, Root scored 218 runs off 377 balls, helping England win the game by 277 runs.

David Warner, vs South Africa in 2022
