Bangladesh bowlers made a late comeback in the last session to bowl out India for 314 runs on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test match in Mirpur on December 23. After restricting the hosts to just 227 runs on Day 1, India started Day 2 from 19/0 but struggled for a good start. They lost their top order with just 72 runs on the scoreboard as Taijul Islam shone with three wickets in the first session.
Virat Kohli seemed confident about a big knock but was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed on 24. However, the in-form Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant pulled off a defining 159-run partnership for the fifth wicket with big half-centuries. Shakib Al Hasan bowled an impressive spell in the last session as India’s innings collapsed for 314 runs in 86.3 overs with an 87-run lead. Shreyas Iyer continues his good run
The in-form Indian batter scored crucial 87 runs off just 105 balls at an impressive strike rate of 82.85 and formed a crucial 159-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Rishabh Pant. Iyer also scored 86 runs in the first innings of the first Test and remains India’s leading run-corer across formats in 2022.
Taijul impresses for Bangladesh
The star Bangladeshi spinner proved the best bowler for the hosts on Day 2 as he toppled India’s top order with valuable wickets of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Cheteshwar Pujara. He ended up with four wickets from 25 overs at an impressive economy rate of 2.96. Taijul’s impressive spell helped Bangladesh to bowl out India but not before they took a modest lead.
KL Rahul and Virat Kohli’s struggle
After failing to make a mark in the first Test, stand-in captain KL Rahul struggled for a big knock again in the second Test. He scored only 10 runs off 45 balls and was dismissed lbw by Taijul Unlike Rahul, Virat Kohli started well and looked set to score a big knock. However, he could not convert his start of a 24 off 55 as he was caught behind off Taskin Ahmed.
