New Zealand announce split squads for ODI series
New Zealand announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series against India in India in January, 2023. Tom Latham has been announced to lead the team in India as regular ODI captain Williamson will return back home.
The Black Caps have also announced their ODI squad for an upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan in Pakistan. New Zealand selectors have named a split squad for both series in order to manage the workload of the players.
Workload management has become a very significant part of the modern-day era because of the amount of cricket being played.
Tim Southee, who has recently been announced as New Zealand’s red-ball captain after Williamson stepped down will take the flight home alongside coaches Gary Stead and Shane Jurgensen after the ODI leg of the Pakistan tour culminates to start their preparations for a home Test series against England scheduled to be played in mid-February, 2023.
In absence of Stead, Luke Ronchi will take charge as the head coach in India and will have NZC network coaches Bob Carter and Paul Wiseman for assistance throughout the tour.
Left-hander Mark Chapman and pacer Jacob Duffy will replace Williamson and Southee for the series in India. The squad for the T20I series against India is yet to be announced. Henry Shipley, Canterbury’s all-rounder, who has done well recently in the domestic circuit has been rewarded for his hard work and managed to find a place in the ODI squads for both tours (Pakistan and India).
