BAN vs IND: 3rd ODI Review – Ishan Kishan’s double ton blows away Bangladesh
India recorded their biggest ODI win, by a margin of runs, against Bangladesh in the third and final ODI on Saturday (December 10). Having already lost the three-match series, the Indian team posted a huge total of 409/8 with Ishan Kishan smashing 210 runs off just 131 balls and Virat Kohli too scoring a century, with a 91-ball 113. The bowlers then put up an impressive show and dished out Bangladesh for 182 runs in 34 overs to register a thumping 227-run win.
Bangladeshi stand-in skipper Litton Das won the toss and invited India to bat first at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Bangladesh replaced Najmul Shanto and Nasum Ahmed with Yasir Ali and Taskin Ahmed and India were forced to replace the injured Rohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar with Ishan Kishan and Kuldeep Yadav.
Kishan’s record-breaking ton
Shikhar Dhawan’s poor form continued as he was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a low score of 3(8) in the fifth over. But Bangladesh bowlers failed to capitalize on the good start. Ishan and Kohli dominated the innings with their 290-run partnership for the second wicket to keep India on track for a big total.
Ishan Kishan smashed 210 runs off just 131 balls to become the youngest player and fastest cricketer to score a double ton in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli smashed his 72nd century in international cricket, which was also his 44th in ODIs. But Bangladeshi bowlers made a good comeback in the last 15 overs and picked up multiple wickets as India managed to reach 409/8 in 50 overs.
India were also favorites to defend the total despite the bowlers’ struggles in the first two matches. Both Bangladeshi openers started with an attacking intent but lost their wickets within the powerplay. Axar Patel gave India the breakthrough with Anamul Haque’s wicket in the fifth over and Mohammed Siraj grabbed the valuable wicket of Litton Das in the eighth over.
Shakib Al Hasan scored crucial 43 runs off 50 balls but the hosts kept losing the wickets from the other end. Young pacer Umran Malik bowled out Mustafizur Rahman in the 34th over to put curtains on Bangladesh’s innings and guided India to a massive 227-run win. Shardul Thakur grabbed three while Axar and Umran took two wickets each for India.
