Most Player of the Series awards in international cricket
Over the years, many cricketers have made a name for themselves with consistent performances with both the bat and ball and thereby, went on to bag both the Player of the Match and Series awards on multiple occasions.
It is never a cakewalk when it comes to winning the Player of the Series awards at the highest level and that too on a consistent basis and only a few players in world cricket have succeeded in achieving this unique feat.
Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.
3. Shakib Al Hasan (16)
Veteran Bangladesh all-rounder and the current T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan occupies the third spot on this elite list. While Bangladesh have not been able to do collectively well as a unit consistently, there have been some individual performances with Shakib being one of them.
The southpaw has won the Player of the Series awards on 16 occasions in international cricket. It is Shakib’s sheer consistency with both bat and ball across all formats that has helped him in earning this well-deserved honor.
2. Virat Kohli (19)
Virat Kohli needs no introduction. He is arguably the best batter to have played the game at the highest level in this generation. The Delhi cricketer has shown consistency on the 22 yards in all three formats of the game and has 71 international centuries to his name.
As of now, Kohli has 19 Player of the Series awards in international cricket and with still a few good years of cricket left in him, he should be able to surpass his role model Sachin Tendulkar.
Notably, the batting megastar bagged back-to-back Player of the Tournament awards in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup.
1. Sachin Tendulkar (20)
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has almost all batting records to his name and also occupies the ‘Numero Uno’ spot on this list having won 20 Player of the Series awards in international cricket.
Sachin was adjudged the Player of the Tournament in the 2003 World Cup for scoring 673 runs as India made the finals before going down to Australia by a mammoth 125 runs.
It is to be noted that the ‘Master Blaster’ never played a single T20I in his successful 24-year international career which would have certainly increased his POS tally.
