IND vs BAN Review – India steal a thriller as rain thwarts Bangladesh

A rain-interrupted India-Bangladesh game went down to the wire but it was Rohit Sharma and co. who found themselves on the right side of the result. Nurul Hasan tried his best to instil life into the game smashing a couple of boundaries in the final over but eventually, Bangladesh fell short of the target by five runs.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl in this crucial Super 12 encounter of Group B in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The Indian skipper Rohit was dismissed early in the innings but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul powered the Indian innings till the halfway mark before the latter fell soon after completing his half-century.

Suryakumar Yadav produced an entertaining cameo of 30 in 16 balls but post his dismissal the middle-order fell one after the other without troubling the scorers significantly. India finished with a score of 184 runs courtesy of another half-century from their talisman Kohli and some useful hits from Ravichandran Ashwin towards the fag end of the innings.

Litton Das got Bangladesh off to a terrific start in the powerplay, scoring five fours and two maximums the powerplay and as a result, achieved the feat of second fastest fifty in this edition of the T20 WC before rain halted play.

Play resumed with a revised target of 151 runs in 16 Overs. Soon after, the Indians got a much-needed breakthrough after they ran the dangerous Litton Das out. Within a couple of overs, post Das’ dismissal, his opening partner Shanto also followed him to the dugout.

Arshdeep Singh rattled the Bangla middle-order with two wickets in the 12th over and the required run rate kept rising post that. The frequent tumbling of wickets didn’t help the batting side, the lower middle order had too much on their plate and eventually succumbed.

Top Performers of the match:

Virat Kohli

Kohli continued his love affair with Adelaide, scoring yet another half-century, courtesy of which his side crossed the 180-run mark in the first innings. He smacked eight fours and a six in his 64-run knock that came in 44 deliveries.

Litton Das

Das came out firing all guns and single-handedly guiding his team to an impressive total in the powerplay. If he would not have been running out, the Indians would have been under a lot of pressure to defend their total. He scored 60 off just 27 with three sixes and seven fours.

What’s next for both teams:

While India face Zimbabwe in the ultimate match of their Super 12 campaign, Bangladesh will lock heads with their Asian counterparts Pakistan.
