Glenn Maxwell looks down on confidence: Stuart Law

Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has said that Glenn Maxwell is trying too hard as a batter which is resulting in his downfall. Maxwell got a good start with the bat in his team’s opening encounter against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2022, but he failed to get going and got out cheaply.

His bowling was also not used against the Kiwi side as they scored 200 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Answering a question about what he felt about Maxwell not being used with the ball, Law said that he was not much surprised.

They use him when he is feeling confident: Law on Maxwell’s bowling

“It does not really surprise me. His spin bowling is being used sparingly at times [and] when he is in a good patch, they use him quite a lot. But at the moment he looks down on confidence. With bat in hand, he is trying too much and too hard,” said Law on a Cricket Chat Show

“Glenn Maxwell is one of those players who needs to pull off some excellent catch or a diving stop and all of a sudden his confidence will go through the roof and you would probably see a different player with the bat and with the ball too,” Law added.

Meanwhile, Australia are currently taking on Sri Lanka in their second encounter of the T20 World Cup. The home team after winning the toss decided to bowl first. The defending champions got off to a perfect start as they scalped the wicket of opening batter Kusal Mendis early in the innings.

However, a good partnership between Dhananjaya de Silva and Pathum Nissanka steadied the ship for the batting side. Both teams will be looking to win the match and move ahead in the competition. Maxwell will also want to show his batting antics during the second innings of the match.
