Do you know? The first player to bag a pair of ducks in their first Test as captain

A captain leads his side from the front and shoulders the responsibility in any given format. No player wants to bag a duck in cricket and especially when he is the leader of the team. But former Australia cricketer Mark Taylor created an unwanted record for him when he got dismissed for a duck not once but twice in his debut Test match as captain and became the first player to do so.

Taylor had a disastrous start to his captaincy tenure as he bagged a pair on his debut against Pakistan in Karachi in 1994. The Aussies toured Pakistan for a three-match Test series in that year and Taylor endured a tough outing in the opening fixture.

The Aussies batted first and posted 337 on the board with Taylor opening the innings and getting out for a four-ball duck to Wasim Akram. In reply, Pakistan got bundled out for just 256 as all the Australian bowlers chipped in with wickets. The visitors got a lead of 81 runs as they looked for a victory under the leadership of Taylor.

But the Kangaroos got dismissed for 232 in their second innings with skipper Taylor yet again failing to get off the mark. Waqar Younis got rid of him for a seven-ball duck as the left-handed batter suffered a horrendous start to his captaincy career with the bat.

To make matters worse, the Australians lost the thrilling encounter by one wicket and went on to lose the series 1-0. As a captain, Taylor played 50 Tests matches and scored 3250 runs at an average of 39.63 with seven centuries and 16 half-centuries.

After two ducks on his captaincy debut, Taylor bagged two more to make it four in total. In terms of wins and losses, he managed to seal victories on 26 occasions for the Aussies. He also faced 13 defeats and played out 11 draws during his reign. Overall, he amassed 7525 runs in 104 Test matches at an average of 43.49 with 19 tons and 40 fifties.
