Most wins as Indian captain in T20Is

A captain is one who leads his side from the front and looks for victories in any given format and sport. No player and especially the captain likes to come second-best in a match. For Asian giants India, there have been few successful leaders in the T20I format and they appear in this chart.

Let’s take a look at the most wins as Indian skipper in T20 internationals:

3.Virat Kohli

Former India captain Virat Kohli has won the third-most matches for his country in T20 internationals. He led India in 50 T20I matches and won 32 of them. He faced a defeat 16 times and two games ended up with no result. His first game in charge of the side came against England in Kanpur in the year 2017 and the last against Namibia in the T20 WC in 2021. Under Kohli, India played only one WC and they failed to qualify for the semi-final in it.

2.Rohit Sharma

India’s second-most successful skipper in the T20I format, Rohit Sharma has led India to 35 victories in 44 matches. The Men in Blue suffered defeats just nine times under the tenure of Rohit in the shortest international format. Rohit’s first game as a leader came against Sri Lanka in Cuttack in December 2017 and the last against South Africa in Guwahati in 2022. The 35-year-old will lead the side for the first time in a World Cup, which is slated to begin in October in Australia.

1.MS Dhoni

Who else other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni is to occupy the first position on this elite list? Dhoni skippered the team in 72 T20Is and won 42 of those, losing 28 times, while two games ended up with no result. The man led India to win in inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 when young team India stunned everyone to lift the title. Under Dhoni’s leadership, India also reached the final of the T20 WC in 2014 and the semi-final of the 2016 edition.
