Asia Cup 2022: Top 3 wicket-takers
The Asia Cup 2022 ended with Sri Lanka being named the champions of the continental tournament. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan to earn their sixth championship title in the summit clash on September 11, 2022. The tournament this year was very interesting and intriguing as the six teams put up some exciting contests on display, resulting in multiple final-over thrillers.
The bowlers were commendable this year and did wonders in the game. Defending a big total on a batting-friendly pitch, or defending a low total in a critical match is very difficult. And when the team goes on to defend such scores, the credit goes to the bowlers. Though some conceded quite a few runs, in the end, they also managed to turn the game and take their respective team to a win
On that note, let us have a look at the top wicket-takers from Asia Cup 2022:
3. Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan (Pakistan)- 8 wickets
The Pakistani bowling trio of Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, and Shadab Khan finished their Asia Cup 2022 campaigns with eight wickets each. While Nawaz had been leading among the three, Rauf and Shadab managed to pick wickets in the summit clash against Sri Lanka and ended up being on the same position.
2. Wanindu Hasaranga (Sri Lanka)- 9 wickets
The magnificent spinner, who was nowhere in the top three before the final, claimed three big wickets in the championship game against Pakistan, and made his way into the rankings, taking up the second spot. In six games, Hasaranga picked up nine wickets at a decent economy of 7.39.
1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (India)- 11 wickets
The 32-year-old led India’s bowling attack this season, and though India could not find a place in the finals, Bhuvneshwar Kumar finished his stint as the leading wicket-taker with 11 scalps under his name at a brilliant economy of 6.05. His best performance came in India’s last game of the tournament against Afghanistan, where he claimed a brilliant five-wicket haul and contributed to India’s 101-run victory.
