Flashback: Only three batters to score six consecutive first-class centuries
Scoring a ton in any format and tournament match is special for any batter. But smashing centuries in consecutive innings is quite an achievement for a player irrespective of the competition. First-class cricket is one of the highest standard forms of cricket. It is a match of three or more days of scheduled duration with two innings each between the sides. Three quality players registered a hundred in six successive innings in FC cricket and appear in this elite list.
Let’s take a look at the three batters with six consecutive FC centuries:
- CB Fry
Former England cricketer Charles Burgess Fry smashed centuries in six successive FC innings. He smashed 106, 209, 149, 105, 140, and 105 against Hampshire at Portsmouth, Yorkshire at Hove, Middlesex at Hove, Surrey at The Oval, Kent at Hove, and Yorkshire at Lord’s respectively in August-September 1901. The right-handed batter became the first cricketer to achieve the special feat. He made his debut in FC cricket in 1892 and last appeared in 1921/22. In 394 FC games, Fry struck 30886 runs at an average of 50.22 with 94 centuries and 124 fifties with the highest score of 258*.
2. Don Bradman
One of the greatest batters the world cricket ever produced, former legendary Australian batter Don Bradman is the second name on this chart. The right-handed batter slammed 118, 143, 225, 107, 186, and 135* against Keith Rigg’s XI at the MCG, New South Wales at Adelaide, Queensland at Adelaide, Victoria at the MCG, Queensland at The Gabba, and New South Wales at the SCG respectively in 1938/39 season. Bradman made his FC debut in 1927/28 and played 234 matches. He amassed 28067 runs at an average of 95.14 with 117 tons and 69 half-centuries with the best score of 452*.
3.Mike Procter
Former South African cricketer Mike Procter is the third and final name on this elite list. The right-handed batter hammered 119, 129, 107, 174, 106, and 254 for Rhodesia against Natal B at Bulawayo, Transvaal B at Salisbury, Orange Free State at Bloemfontein, Eastern Transvaal at Pretoria, Griqualand West at Kimberly and Western Province at Salisbury respectively in 1970/71 season. He made his debut in the year 1965 and featured in 401 matches. Procter mustered 21,936 runs at an average of 36.01 with 48 centuries and 109 half-centuries with the highest score of 254.
